Whisky Review Methodology

Whisky Review Methodology

Mad Whisky Lab reviews are intended to help readers understand a bottle before they buy it. We combine product research with tasting-focused editorial notes and practical value guidance.

What We Look At

  • Identity: distillery or producer, country, whisky type, age statement, proof or ABV, and cask information when available.
  • Aroma: the first impressions and key scents in the glass.
  • Palate: texture, flavour development, sweetness, spice, fruit, oak, smoke, and balance.
  • Finish: length, warmth, flavour persistence, and overall impression.
  • Value: approximate price, availability, versatility, and who the bottle suits.

Ratings and Context

Any rating is an editorial opinion, not an objective measure of quality. Personal preference, batch variation, storage, glassware, and serving style can all affect a tasting experience. Prices and availability are time- and location-sensitive.

Disclosure

When a product is supplied, sponsored, or linked through a commercial relationship, that relationship should be disclosed on the relevant article. Editorial conclusions should remain separate from advertising or affiliate considerations.
